Morrisons’ new phone shopping service, aimed specifically at the old and vulnerable during the current pandemic, has received over 100,00 orders in its first two months of operation.

Launched in April, the new telesales shopping platform was introduced in response to the coronavirus pandemic to aid customers who were self-isolating, elderly or vulnerable and were not able to visit a shop.

With over 100,000 orders having now been delivered, customers are able to place orders directly over the phone, with next day delivery taking place free of charge.

“We are playing our full part in feeding the nation and ensuring those that are most in need can receive a delivery from Morrisons.”

The news comes after Ocado announced it saw sales surge by 40% during lockdown, as many customers turned to online shopping following the spread of Covid-19.

David Potts, Morrisons chief executive, said: “The ‘Doorstep Delivery’ service has been a lifeline to many of our customers who can talk to an actual person and order their essential groceries.  We are playing our full part in feeding the nation and ensuring those that are most in need can receive a delivery from Morrisons.”
