Global multi-protein producer Hilton Foods has released a report outlining the progress made on its 2025 Sustainable Protein Plan.
Focusing on Hilton Foods’ performance across three pillars, ‘People, Planet, and Product’, the report gives details of progress made towards its Sustainable Protein Plan as the project reaches its final year.
Group chief quality and sustainability officer Lorna Schneider said: “The Sustainable Protein Plan has been at the heart of our operations and shows what can be achieved through strong partnerships and the dedication of our colleagues worldwide. This year’s report highlights the progress we’ve made in the final year of the plan, and we’re proud to be leading the way – from advancing climate commitments to delivering innovative solutions across the food chain – as we continue to push for even greater impact.”
Milestones highlighted in the report include:
- Receiving an A score for Climate Change from environmental disclosure platform CDP, improved Forests score of A-, and score of B for the company’s first Water disclosure.
- Hilton Foods is on track to achieve 100% renewable electricity in Europe by 2025 and globally by 2027.
- Achieving 59% recyclability for plastic packaging, exceeding the 50% recycled content targets. Packaging weight has also been reduced by 1,000 tonnes.
- 98% of Hilton Foods’ UK wild-caught seafood meets MSC standards or equivalent certification.
- Fair pay and working conditions audits completed across manufacturing sites.
- Achieving 30% women in leadership, meeting the 2025 target ahead of schedule.
- Publishing a detailed Transition Plan focused on decarbonising beef supply chains.
Looking ahead
The food producer is now planning the next phase of its strategy beyond 2025 and will be applying three criteria to its planning: alignment with the external landscape, transparent measurability, and robust governance. Its Sustainability Committee will conduct a review of the plan to ensure it is “ambitious and actionable”.
“We want to build on the fundamentals we have in place to continue contributing to global change.”
Schneider added: “We are proud of the progress we have made so far, but we recognise that there is much still to do. We want to build on the fundamentals we have in place to continue contributing to global change; applying the same level of rigour and commercial focus to our next phase, ensuring our targets are both ambitious yet actionable.”
