The John Lewis Partnership, which owns Waitrose, has reported its interim results for the 26 weeks ended 26th July, finding that the retailer’s sales increased to £4.1 billion.
According to figures from the British Retail Consortium, food sales were up 4.7% on the year in August, while shopper confidence remains low.
Food store volume sales dropped 0.2% during the month of July, the Office for National Statistics has found.
Total revenue is down by 0.2% year-on-year, but the supermarket reported that investment in lower prices has strengthened like-for-like sales during the quarter.
UK retailer Lidl has started construction on a new warehouse in Leeds, which it said would create 400 new roles.
