Sir Lewis Hamilton’s vegan burger chain Neat has announced it will close its remaining London outlets.

In a statement made to The Sun newspaper, the vegan food chain has confirmed that it will be closing its two remaining London restaurants in Camden and Wembley after continued financial losses. The company has already closed its other branches in London as well as one in New York, leaving one remaining restaurant in Milan.

Celebrity backing

Set up in 2019 by racing driver Sir Lewis Hamilton, with backing from actor Leonardo DiCaprio, to create a “healthier high street option”, the restaurant received praise for its food when it launched.

Hamilton has been vegan since 2017, and menu items include plant-based burgers, salads and ciabattas. The company’s mission statement is “It’s good mood plant-based food. It’s better for the planet. It’s our commitment to doing things differently”, and packaging is listed as being “100% made from plants” and 100% recyclable and biodegradable.

“The business has taken the difficult decision to close its UK restaurants.”

A spokesperson for Neat is quoted in the newspaper as saying: “We have no further comment at this time, other than to confirm that the business has taken the difficult decision to close its UK restaurants.”
