The many challenges involved in ensuring comprehensive food safety throughout processing and packing operations and the best practice solutions to achieve this will be outlined at the second Ishida Europe Food Safety Summit, to be held at Sheffield Hallam University on October 9th.

Advice and guidance will be provided by a number of industry experts in a series of presentations and discussions, focusing on four of the most high-profile food safety issues currently – allergens and contaminants, physical contaminants, auditing and compliance, and new packaging and shelf life.

Topics covered during the day will include how to ensure food allergy protocols are strictly adhered to throughout the food supply chain; effective ways to avoid physical contaminants during production; how to remain compliant with both BRC Global Standards and latest retailer compliance requirements; and a look at latest packaging trends, including the move to reduce plastic while maintaining shelf life.

Guest speakers at the event will be Dr Anton Alldrick, Special Projects Manager, Campden BRI; Steve Baker, Technical Specialist, BOC; Richard Leathers, Food Safety Management Systems Services Lead, Campden BRI; Peter Littleton, Technical Director, Christeyns Food Hygiene; Antonio Nespoli, Group Research, Development and Quality, Barilla Group; Glen Oxborough, Product Manager, Ishida Europe; and Andrew Skinner, Founder, TQS Consulting.

“Ensuring food safety is a critical part of the success of any food business, and our own research has shown that consumers take the topic very seriously,” commented Ciaran Murphy, quality control business manager of Ishida Europe.

“Today with 24-hour online news and numerous social media channels, even a minor transgression can suddenly become headline news, and this can be seriously damaging for a company’s or brand’s reputation.

“Our annual Food Safety Summit tackles the latest developments to help and support delegates in their drive to achieve a right first time approach to all aspects of food safety.”

The Ishida Europe Food Safety Summit will take place at Sheffield Hallam University’s National Centre of Excellence for Food Engineering. The newly opened research centre brings together an ever-expanding network of industry groups, academics and engineers to solve specific business challenges within the food and drink sector.

The summit is free to attend. Further information and registration details can be found at www.ishidaeurope.com/eu/en/food-safety-summit.
