UK Sausage week (UKSW) will return on Monday 28th October this year and runs until 3rd November 2019. Promoting all things sausage, the special promotional activity is designed to help boost sales over the all-important autumn season.

The celebration lunch on 28th October, which marks the official start of UK Sausage Week, will take place at the new Butchers Hall in London and other than normal Worshipful Company of Butchers events, the lunch is set to be the first major food industry event at the Hall after its £10M refurbishment and reopening this coming September.

Once again CEO of the Institute Of Meat (IoM) Keith Fisher will be head judge of the competition to find the UK’s Supreme Sausage, as well as the winners of thirteen other categories. The judging panel includes representatives from Ladies in Pigs and other various guests.

This year’s Sausage Week Ambassador is to be the celebrity chef, author, broadcaster and cookery school businesswoman Lesley Waters.

Lesley Waters

Celebrity chef and businesswoman Lesley Waters will host UK Sausage Week 2019.

Lesley Waters was a very popular host at the 2018 Women In Meat Industry Awards ceremony in November last year and told Food Management Today that she was very pleased to be part of UK Sausage Week this year.

“I really enjoyed hosting the Women In Meat Awards ceremony in 2018 and was thrilled to be asked back to present the UK Sausage Week Awards at the celebration lunch this year,” she said.

Fantastic job

Publisher of Meat Management magazine Graham Yandell, who organise the annual UKSW said he was delighted that Lesley will be part of celebrating UK Sausage Week, commenting: “Lesley did a fantastic job at the Women In Meat Industry Awards last year and when I asked her to help us celebrate UK Sausage Week in 2019 she was very enthusiastic.

“UK Sausage Week is a key date in the trade calendar and we are really looking forward to both the promotion and the competition. It is always so good to see so many businesses and organisations getting behind the initiative and making the most of this unique opportunity, during a key autumn period for the marketing and promotion of sausages.”

CEO of the Institute Of Meat (IoM) Keith Fisher will be head judge of the competition.

Categories

Apart from regional butchers’ categories, sausages can be entered into Best Manufacturer Own Brand Sausage, Best Supermarket / Multiple Retailer Sausage and Best Foodservice Sausage. All entries are judged for the UK Supreme Sausage Award too.

Organiser of the event Emma Cash added: “It’s brilliant that we can have the lunch and reveal the UK Supreme Sausage Champion at the new Butchers Hall. UK Sausage Week always attracts much interest, but the celebration lunch at the new Hall when non-liverymen can attend, will be the icing on the Sausage Week cake. My message to everyone is to book tables and tickets early to avoid disappointment.”

More details about the celebration lunch can be obtained from Nikki Wootton on 01908 613323.
