A 24-hour stoppage will be called within a week from 28th July after Weetabix workers in the Usdaw union unanimously voted to take industrial action over a shift payments dispute.

The union states that further 24 to 48-hour strikes will be called until the issue is resolved. Workers at the AP4 factory in Kettering, which makes cereal bars, were asked to take part in a ballot after the company revealed it would be reducing unsociable hours shift premium pay.

The BBC reported that Weetabix was in “close consultation” with the workers and confident that product shortages could be avoided.

In a statement the company said: “We are naturally disappointed by this result, but respect the voice of our workforce and their representatives. Our success over nearly 90 years is built on a strong relationship with our workforce.”
