It’s celebration time as the winners of the 2018 UK Sausage Week competition were unveiled today (29th October) during a sizzling celebration lunch at Plaisterers’ Hall, London.

This year’s UK Sausage Week kicked off with a bang (or banger!) when awards were presented for some of the country’s best sausages.

Host Sophie Grigson, known for her cookery books and regular television appearances, presented the 27 winners with their certificates.

The event included the UK Supreme Sausage Champion accolade which was awarded to Frank Parker Butchers for its Free Range Pork Breakfast Sausage.

Around 500 different sausages were entered into the competition and were judged at The Regional Food Academy, Harper Adams University, by Institute of Meat CEO Keith Fisher, Q Guild of Butchers manager Claire Holland, members of Ladies In Pigs and other industry experts.

Chief judge Keith Fisher said: “Opening the Sausage Week competition up to feature all meat sausages rather than only pork was an excellent move. Throughout the judging we tasted everything from turkey through to venison and some of the flavour combinations used were truly inspired. The care and attention that’s been put into the products submitted was clear.

“Sausage Week remains as important as ever since Meat Management took over the initiative and the quality of the sausages coming through genuinely increases year on year.”

A variety of events are still to take place throughout the week-long UK Sausage Week initiative. Butchers, manufacturers, retailers and associations across the UK are hosting their own sausage events, special promotions, competitions and tastings across the campaign.

Companies still looking to get in on the action may wish to download the official UK Sausage Week poster to display, or download the logo to print and use for product labels. An extensive selection of sizzling sausage recipes are also available for use. For further information visit www.uksausageweek.com.
