The winners of the 2019 UK Sausage Week competition were revealed during a ‘sizzling’ occasion  attended by winners, finalists and Award partners at the newly refurbished Butchers’ Hall, London.

Chef Lesley Waters, known for regular TV appearances on programmes such as Ready Steady Cook (BBC), Great Food (UKTV) and This Morning (ITV), presented the winners with their awards, including the coveted UK Supreme Sausage Champion accolade.

The top Award went to Morgan’s Country Butchers for its Traditional Shropshire Pork Sausage. Commenting after the presentation, Lauren Morgan said: “We are absolutely thrilled to win this fantastic Award and become this year’s UK Supreme Sausage Champion. We also won the West Midlands Traditional sausage category so it is a double celebration.”

The winning sausage uses Darren Morgan’s 30 year old recipe. Lauren added: “Dad is really thrilled. It’s a great sausage and very popular with our customers.”

Food manufacturer, Cranswick was a winner in the Best Supermarket/Multiple Retailer Sausage Traditional category for its Sainsbury’s Taste the Difference Cumberland Sausage and the Innovative award went to Lidl for its its Deluxe RSPCA Assured Honey & Mustard Sausage.

Around 500 different sausages were entered into the competition and were judged back in September at The Regional Food Academy, Harper Adams University, by Institute of Meat CEO Keith Fisher, Q Guild of Butchers manager Claire Holland and members of Ladies In Pigs (LIPS).

Fisher said: “The care and attention that’s been put into the products submitted was clear. Sausage Week remains as important as ever since Meat Management magazine took over the initiative over three years ago and the quality of the sausages coming through genuinely increases year on year.”

The week-long sausage celebration still has a lot of events to take place. Across the UK butchers, manufacturers, associations and retailers are curating their own sausage events, competitions, promotions and tastings, to celebrate UK Sausage Week.

Companies and businesses still looking to get involved in the action may wish to download the official UK Sausage Week poster to display, or download the logo to print and use for product labels. There is also a selection of sizzling sausage recipes available for use.
