The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has announced a series of free webinars in November which will cover risk analysis and UK authorisation of substances in food and feed after the Transition Period.

From 1 January 2021, new processes will be in place to provide food safety risk advice in the UK. This includes the way certain foods and animal feed products are authorised for the UK market.

According to the FSA, this will particularly impact those wanting to apply for the authorisation of regulated products such as food and feed additives, flavourings, genetically modified foods or food contact materials.

Phil Flaherty, head of risk analysis and trade policy unit at the FSA, said: “From 1st January 2021, the Food Standards Agency (FSA) and Food Standards Scotland (FSS) will take over responsibility from European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and the European Commission for carrying out risk analysis. The FSA and FSS will make recommendations to Ministers on whether to authorise certain food and animal feed products, as well as any new products or processes for the UK market where this is required by legislation.

“These webinars will explain how the risk analysis process will operate and what businesses will need to do to apply for regulated product authorisation in the UK  from 2021 onwards.”

The webinars will be taking place on Thursday 12th November 2020 (9.30-11.00 GMT) and Monday 16th November 2020 (14.00-15.30 GMT).

Those wishing to take part can register on the FSA website here.
