Shortbread producer Walker’s Shortbread has appointed Justin Stead as its new chair, with Stead to assume his role in late October 2025.

Founded in 1898, Walker’s Shortbread has a 127-year heritage as a family-owned producer of traditional shortbread. The company is recognised globally, exporting its products to around 100 countries worldwide.

Walker’s stated that Stead would bring “decades of experience” leading and working with global consumer brands, and a “proven track record of strategic and innovative” leadership. Stead will officially assume his role on Wednesday 22nd October.

Stead will become the third ever chair of Walker’s and succeeds Bob Brannan, who held the position for the previous seven years.

Nicky Walker, managing director of Walker’s Shortbread, said: “Following an extensive recruitment process, I am delighted to welcome Justin Stead as the new chair of Walker’s Shortbread. Justin brings a wealth of experience and leadership to the role, having built an impressive career across global brands. His strategic insight and commitment to excellence will be invaluable as we continue to grow and evolve as a business.”

Stead is currently chair of several global businesses, including Le Col and Baby Mori, and has held roles as CEO of Radley London and the Watches of Switzerland Group.

Beyond his business credentials, Justin is the founder of the Aurelius Foundation, a community interest organisation dedicated to promoting the principles of Stoic philosophy. Walker’s stated that his global perspective and “personable, motivational style” make him an ideal fit to support Walker’s Shortbread in its ambitions for the future.

Walker continued: “Justin’s approachable, personable nature and his professional expertise will be a tremendous asset to the business. We are confident that with his guidance we will continue to build on our strong foundations as we drive forward our ambitions for the future. The family, board, and executive team are thrilled to welcome Justin to the Walker’s Shortbread family.”

Justin Stead, chair of Walker’s Shortbread, stated: “It is a privilege to join Walker’s Shortbread, a brand steeped in heritage and synonymous with quality and excellence around the world. I am honoured to take on this role and look forward to collaborating with the talented team to shape the next chapter of the Walker’s story. Together, we will build upon the company’s strong legacy to deliver continued success for years to come.”
