The Food Management Today Industry Awards product judging is taking place this week and the judges have said they are impressed by the calibre of the entries received.

Products have been nominated by the food industry into multiple categories, including: Best Dairy Product, Best Bakery Product, Best Red Meat Product, Best Poultry Product, Best Frozen Product, New Product Development and Best Free From Product.

The judges are currently at the Regional Food Academy at Harper Adams University, busy reviewing everything from ice creams and cakes through to roasting joints and steaks.

Head judge Keith Fisher, CEO of the Institute of Meat, commented: “There have been a wide variety of products coming through, all to a high standard. The degree of preparation that people have gone to with their products to ensure they’re 100% edible with little or no waste has been impressive. We’ve also seen different flavour profiles coming through this year. People are experimenting with flavours we haven’t seen much from before and are using them in interesting and innovative ways.”

Food Management Today publisher and fellow judge, Graham Yandell, added: “It is interesting to see how many new companies have entered products this year – proving the growing reach of this competition. I also think it is encouraging that there is considerable emphasis on reducing wastage and the focus on responsible packaging. This judging process is always a pleasure.”

The winners and finalists are now being selected, as the countdown to the prestigious awards ceremony and industry lunch begins.

The lunch will be hosted by celebrity chef John Torode, perhaps best known for his role on the MasterChef television series. He will be joined by speaker Robbie Glen. The venue for the occasion will be the five star Royal Garden Hotel, London, on 31st January 2019.
