Succeeding Karen McQuade, McIlroy brings almost four decades’ experience in the food and farming sectors to the role, including 26 years in the frozen food industry.
As managing director of Daregal Gourmet, McIlroy leads the UK business of a producer of frozen culinary herbs, supplying manufacturers, retailers and foodservice businesses with a range of ingredients. McIlroy has previously served as vice-president and a director of the BFFF.
“I will be calling on members to get involved in championing frozen food and ensuring our messages reach policymakers and consumers.”
Martin McIlroy, president of the BFFF, commented: “The UK is facing a cost-of-living crisis and growing threats to its food resilience, and our industry has a crucial role to play in ensuring a reliable supply of affordable and nutritious food.
“For this reason, it has never been more important for the voice of our industry to be heard. In my role as BFFF president, I will be calling on members to get involved in championing frozen food and ensuring our messages reach policymakers and consumers. By working together, we can demonstrate the value of frozen food and make sure its contribution to the UK food system is fully recognised.”
Rupert Ashby, CEO of the BFFF, stated: “I’m delighted to welcome Martin to the role of president. His experience in the frozen food sector, his understanding of our industry and his commitment to the BFFF make him an excellent choice to lead the federation as we continue to champion frozen food and represent our members’ interests.
“I would also like to thank Karen McQuade for her service and leadership as president. Her commitment to the federation and her passion for the frozen food industry have been greatly valued. We are grateful for the time and energy she has dedicated to representing our members and promoting the benefits of frozen food.”
