The 2022 FMT Food Industry Awards has opened its product nominations process, offering companies throughout the food industry the chance to submit their products for judging by Friday 28th January.

The FMT Food Industry Awards is back for 2022! The awards ceremony, hosted at the Royal Lancaster Hotel in London on Wednesday 25th May, will offer food industry professionals the chance to celebrate the best of the sector at the evening’s black-tie ceremony and dinner.

In the meantime, manufacturers and retailers are invited to nominate products for entry into one or more of the nine product categories, which will be judged by industry experts. The online nominations process is quick and easy, and industry professionals can submit their products for judging free of charge. Here is a full rundown on all the product categories open for nominations:

Best Bakery Product

From flapjacks to apple pies, the Best Bakery Product category has had a wide range of winners over the years. Previous award winners have demonstrated immense creativity in reinventing staples of the bakery market for the modern-day consumer.

Best Dairy Product

Success in the Best Dairy Product category is about taking age-old practices and combining them with new ingredients, flavours and/or branding to produce something fresh and exciting for today’s market. In 2020, M&S and Muller Milk & Ingredients took the top prize in this category for their highly inventive Pink Gin Cream.

Best Free From Product

The Best Free From Product is awarded to a company that goes that extra mile to produce delicious alternatives to fit the essential dietary requirements of the UK public. In a time where sustainability and environmental impact are at the forefront of many consumer buying decisions, the Best Free From Product category honours those products at the cutting-edge of an ever-growing market.

Best Frozen Product

Rewarding excellence in this specialist area of the food industry, the award for Best Frozen Food Product is given each year to a product that makes its mark on the convenience food market. From red meat to luxury ice-cream, previous winners have come from a variety of food sectors.

Best New Product Development

This category is open to products of all food types and the award is given to a team that exceed expectations in bringing a fresh, new product to market. In 2019, Peter’s Food Service took top prize in this category for an interesting take on a baked staple with its ‘Nurish Chicken Tikka Filled Bakes’.

Best Red Meat Product

Whether its beef, pork or lamb, the award for Best Red Meat Product goes to a product that showcases the value and quality of red meat produced in the UK today. In previous years, Linden Foods and Marks & Spencer have dominated the category with their lamb steaks and beef joints.

Best Poultry Product

Previously won by companies such as Morrisons and Cranswick plc, this accolade is given to a product that demonstrates it is the height of innovation in an extremely competitive market. Top prize has been awarded in this category to various types of product over the years, including a full roast chicken, BBQ chicken drumsticks and Souvlaki Kebabs.

The Best Seafood Product category is designed to recognise the best seafood products represented in the UK market today. Previous winners have impressed the judging panel with their innovation, convenience and consideration to consumer health and diet.

Product delivery is scheduled for Tuesday 8th February 2022 when product judging will start at the test kitchens located at Harper Adams University. All those participating will be sent full details in advance to facilitate product delivery.
