This year’s meat awards judging, organised by Meat Management magazine, comes to a conclusion at Harper Adams University as judges report another outstanding entry from all sectors of the meat industry.

The judging process for products precedes the much-anticipated awards ceremony planned to take place in Birmingham on 9th September and according to Keith Fisher, head judge of the team evaluating products: “It has been another superb week.”

Once again the general consensus from judges and home economists was that the standard of entries and the quality was excellent, as judges evaluated all the key aspects covering a vast array of products from across the trade. As part of the judging process, handling, cooking and tasting is a major logistical undertaking to be finished before products are ranked and scored.

Fisher added: “We have seen a substantial and diverse entry of products and as usual they did not disappoint. Despite the challenges, this really is an exciting time for the industry and it is always a pleasure to see trends, innovation and packaging developments when judging, and to be impressed by the sheer brilliance of what our industry can do.”

Sharon Yandell, the lead organiser for the MM Meat Industry Awards concluded: “Once again I would like to thank everyone who has taken the time to enter. With pressure on staffing for many companies, it is not always easy to find the time to enter, but we have seen a fabulous range of products this week.

“Our online events over the last year have been brilliant and very popular, including last year’s online meat awards, but I know there is great anticipation for a physical ceremony this year and we are actively planning forward. Therefore, if all goes as expected, we will deliver presentations to our usual high standard in Birmingham on September 9th.”
