Seafish, a public body that supports the seafood industry in the UK, has unveiled a new campaign, encouraging businesses to find out how climate change will affect them before the UN Climate Change Conference next month.

The organisation has launched a campaign that aims to highlight the importance of both mitigation, reducing the industry’s contributions to climate change; and adaptation, preparing for and responding to the impacts of a changing climate.

Seafish intends to offer a suite of resources that includes a short film, case studies of businesses across the seafood supply chain and a blog with updated links to tools and further resources.

The launch of a new e-alert is also being planned. According to Seafish, businesses can sign up to the e-alert to receive climate change updates relevant to the seafood industry. A quarterly email newsletter will also aim to bring together news on research and reports, consultations, funding opportunities and events.

“Significant challenges ahead”

Aoife Martin, director of operations at Seafish, said: “Climate change is now recognised as one of the major challenges facing humanity. The impacts will affect us all and the seafood sector and individual businesses must respond. We’re launching a campaign on the implications for the seafood supply chain ahead of the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) taking place in Glasgow next month. Witnessing global discussions on climate change in our backyard reminds us of the significant challenges we all face.”
