The Cold Chain Federation will host a Cold Chain Climate Summit in March, the first event of its type to explore key issues, challenges and opportunities for the cold chain in responding to and preparing for net zero.

The Summit will take place on 15th March 2023 at The Slate, Warwick Conferences, featuring speakers and panellists drawn from across the cold chain industry, the Department for Transport and leaders in logistics academia. Keynote speeches will be delivered by Claire Walters (Regional Vice President at Lineage Logistics), Professor Alan McKinnon (Kuehne Logistics University) and Dr Leyla Sayin (The Centre for Sustainable Cooling).

Aimed at people managing the climate, sustainability and energy efficiency programmes within cold chain businesses, the Summit will include data, analysis and debate about the leading edge issues for businesses in cold storage and temperature-controlled distribution.

Cold Chain Federation executive director Tom Southall said: “With the impacts of climate change becoming increasingly visible across the world, we are only seeing the beginning of changes to Government sustainability policies aimed at delivering net zero, as well as changing customer requirements and specifications for low carbon logistics. Demand for cold chain services is growing and will be crucial in tackling key issues such as food waste prevention. Whilst there could be significant new opportunities for operators in the UK’s energy transformation, net zero will also require businesses to adapt to new approaches to delivering cold chain more sustainably in the future.

“The Cold Chain Climate Summit is a chance for cold chain colleagues to come together, explore key challenges and opportunities with external experts, look at the role of future-facing technologies, and consider the path forward for individual businesses and for our industry as a whole.”

The Summit will be followed by a networking lunch. All Cold Chain Federation member companies are entitled to one free ticket, additional tickets can be purchased at £100 +VAT. Email info@coldchainfed.org.uk to reserve places.
