Ocado has announced a new price-matching scheme on more than 10,000 Tesco items as supermarkets move to retain price savvy customers.

The move comes as food costs continue to rise and supermarkets wanting to retain their shoppers’ loyalty.

When consumers place an online order with Ocado it has pledged to check the combined like-for-like products at Tesco. Should items within the scheme be found to be more expensive consumers will be sent a money-off voucher for the price difference.

The online retailer is not alone with Tesco currently having a price match scheme with Aldi on hundreds of items. Sainsbury’s has also chosen to price-match on Aldi products 150 of which are fresh food.

Interestingly, Asda is not price matching with other food retailers but the household store, Home Bargains.

The retailers moves come at time when Kantar data revealed earlier in the week that food price inflation is the highest ever recorded at 17.1% up on this time last year.
