On Friday 15th November an FSA webinar will feature the 2023 and 2024 winners of the Campden BRI/IFTSA Graduate Research competition.

The winners will talk about their graduate research while visiting Campden BRI in the UK from the USA.

The 2024 winner, Ivannova Lituma, will discuss the effect of UV-C light against Listeria monocytogenes on hydroponically grown lettuce and its effect on quality.

Jenna Fryer, 2023 winner, will discuss sensorial changes associated with smoke taint in wines affected by wildfires including understanding the flavour interactions associated with smoke taint and evaluation of interstimulus protocol to mitigate carryover bias in sensory evaluation.

Ivannova Lituma is a food science researcher with a focus on food safety. She said she has a passion for developing innovative, practical, and sustainable ways to increase the safety of the food chain. Her PhD is focused on the effect of UV-C light against Listeria monocytogenes on hydroponically grown lettuce and its effect on quality. She is from Honduras, and has a B.Sc., Food Science and Technology from Zamorano University, Francisco Morazán.

Jenna Fryer is a PhD student at Oregon State University. She received her bachelor’s degree in Food Science from The Ohio State University where she discovered her passion for sensory science and human perception.
