Pork and poultry processor Cranswick is reported to have started a consultation process at its Sutton Fields site, with some workers reported to be at risk of redundancy.

The site in Sutton Fields, which was established in 1999, has 950 employees.

The site is home to its premium sliced cooked meats, slow cook meal centres and premium ready meals offer.

A spokesperson for Cranswick told BBC News: “We have unfortunately started a consultation process with colleagues whose roles are at risk of redundancy.

“We understand this is a very difficult time for all those involved and will work with them to identify other job opportunities at the other Cranswick sites in the area.”

Cranwick operates from 23 production facilities in the UK, producing a variety of pork and poultry products for major UK retailers.

A letter sent to an employee of Cranswick, as reported in HullLive, is said to read: “We are also looking at reducing head count across other areas of the business with a proposed total of 100 people affected.”

HullLive went on to report the letter also told this worker: “Your position sits within a group of roles where we are proposing to reduce the total head count. This group is made up of slicer operatives on high risk nights and we are proposing to reduce this total head count from nine to five. We are also looking at reducing head count across other areas of the business with a proposed total of 100 people affected.”

Food Management Today has approached Cranswick for a comment but has yet to receive a response.
