A fire at a Burnley-based bakery owned by Warburtons has now been extinguished, with the company set to launch an investigation to determine the cause.

Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service stated that the fire was reported at 2.45pm on Monday 4th May at the Warburtons bakery on Billington Road in Burnley.

The fire service deployed 12 fire engines and specialist appliances from across Lancashire after receiving reports of a commercial property fire.

Response crews were reportedly “scaled back” over the following days to dampen any remaining pockets of fire, before leaving the scene on Wednesday 6th May.

“We are currently looking at upweighting production at our other 11 bakeries to minimise impact on supply.”

A spokesperson for Warburtons commented: “We can confirm there has been a fire at our Burnley bakery. Thankfully, everyone at site is safe and we are grateful for the hard work of the local fire service who remain on site today.

“The fire is now under control and has been contained to one side of the building. When the site is safe, a full investigation will take place to determine the cause, and to assess the full extent of the damage.

“We bake a range of hot plate products at Burnley, production has obviously stopped on site, and we are currently looking at upweighting production at our other 11 bakeries to minimise impact on supply.”
