Global protein producer Hilton Foods has published its first sustainability report, which it said demonstrated “significant progress” in its commitment to sustainable business practices.

Hilton announced that it had achieved a 14% reduction in Scope 3 GHG emissions, as seen in the report.

This follows news in March 2024 that Hilton Foods had new, long-term science-based greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets approved by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).

The company also reported “advanced efforts in packaging”, with 1,971 tonnes of plastic packaging reduced since 2020. It detailed progress made towards its target of 100% renewable electricity in European operations by 2025, reporting a “notable increase”.

Hilton has surpassed its 2025 female leadership target of 30%, with 36% of leadership roles now belonging to women.

Hilton Foods Ireland reported that it had achieved a 50% reduction in water usage compared with 2020, while the entire company reported improved water efficiency across operations.

Steve Murrells CBE, group chief executive officer said: “Sustainability is written into the way we work at Hilton Foods, and our whole business model depends on the standards and trust we provide as global food producers. We’re proud of the strength of the targets and robustness of the plan, and we will continue to raise the bar we have set for ourselves to remain industry leaders in this space.”
