According to an alert by the Food Standards Agency (FSA), John West has recalled two of its sardine products because of a possible microbiological contamination risk.

John West Boneless Sardines in Sunflower Oil and John West Sardines in Olive Oil are the two products to have been recalled by the global fish processor. The FSA said that the recalled products could be unsafe to eat.

The sardines are sold in major UK supermarkets, including Morrisons, Waitrose, Tesco, Ocado, Amazon, EH Booth, James Hall, Century Park, Co-operative and James Wilson stores. Cans of this product purchased through other retailers are not affected.

Products with a batch code of 109, 110, 111, 112 and 113 are amongst the impacted.

Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores currently selling these products. These notices explain to customers why the products are being recalled what to do if they have bought them.

The FSA is advising anyone who has puchased these products not eat them and to return them to the store they were bought for a full refund.
