Organisers of the Meat Management Industry Awards, which recognises the best manufacturers, producers, suppliers, retailers and butchers in the UK meat sector, have said the move to host the 2020 ceremony online has been well received by partners of the initiative and the wider industry.

Celebrity magician Ben Hanlin will co-host the ceremony that will be broadcast live from a studio for the first time via the Meat Management website on 8th September at 4.30pm.

Hanlin is best known for presenting the ITV2 series Tricked from 2013 to 2016, and more recently took part in the last series of ITV’s Dancing on Ice.

The decision to make the awards an online event was taken earlier this year as a result of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

“The fact we’re still able to have the awards ceremony, in such a new and exciting format, is brilliant.”

Graham Yandell, publisher of Meat Management magazine, said: “The response we have had from our partners and everyone involved in this initiative has been tremendous.

“For some time there was a focus on the type of ceremony that would work best for all involved given the challenging and uncertain circumstances created by Covid-19, but everyone at Meat Management has worked extremely hard to organise a wonderful celebration of the British meat industry.”

Pam Brook, editor of Meat Management magazine and sister publication Food Management Today, continued: “Obviously it’s a shame that we can’t hand out the awards in person to some of the best in the UK meat industry, but the ceremony, as always, will still shine a light on all the brilliant people, companies and organisations that make this industry what it is. The fact we’re still able to have the awards ceremony, in such a new and exciting format, is brilliant.

“We’re working hard to make sure that everyone involved in this year’s initiative can still feel part of the ceremony from the comfort and safety of their own home. I can’t wait for everyone to see how much effort we have put in to ensure the evening is one of the best ever.”

The full ceremony will also be available on-demand after it has first been broadcast, further widening its appeal and its reach to the marketplace.
