Five individuals connected with the Government and the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) have been recognised as part of the 2024 King’s Birthday Honours List.
Director of operations at the Food Standards Agency (FSA) Junior Johnson was made an Officer of the British Empire (OBE) for public and voluntary service. Johnson has been with the FSA since 2022, and was previously deputy director in the Ministry of Justice.
Defra officials who have been recognised this year include:
- Timothy Mordan, lately deputy director of innovation, productivity and science (OBE)
- Amira Amzour, deputy director of the Environment Bill (OBE)
- Louise Ball, head of genetic technology regulatory team (MBE)
Robert Caudwell, lately chair of the Lowland Agricultural Peat Task Force, which is facilitated by Defra, was also awarded an OBE for services for lowland peat carbon stores and food security.
Members of the UK’s food manufacturing sector were also mentioned in this year’s Birthday Honours. Chairman of food processor and retailer Dicksons, Michael Dickson was made an MBE for services to the food industry and to the community in Tyne and Wear. Founder and managing director of Simply Doughnuts, Shiraz Master was also recognised with an MBE for services to the promotion of food and drink, to business and to philanthropy.
